Blogmas 2; What does Christmas mean to me?

Christmas has to be about Christ; at the very start of the word itself, there he is. As a Christian, I don't know whether the story of Christmas is gospel truth or beautiful fairytale and I quite frankly don't care. Where Jesus came from or how his birth was managed doesn't matter to me, what matters is that He lived and had such excellent advice for us, both spoken and acted. If at a cold season of the year and in a bid to outshine Roman/Viking/other gods the early Christians chose to assign the date of Christmas at the darkest point in the year, that seems psychologically right to me. Jesus is the light in my darkness, the shining guide who gives me a lamp and a lantern to lead me on the way.

  1. It's a shame that the true meaning of Christmas is all but forgotten. It was on the news today how primary schools are doing away with traditional nativity plays and bringing in characters such as aliens, Elvis and footballers, or changing the nativity plays to winter plays or concerts. I actually miss seeing the school nativity plays since my two left, it was one of my Christmas highlights.

    1. I know what you mean! I always thought it was a shame that mine did so many nativity plays and NONE of them had the 'old fashioned' songs in; like the staff were embarassed to sing Little Donkey or Rat a Tat Tat! If I were to write a new nativity, I'd make it so retro!

    1. Thank you. I'm not sure ever how far to explain my faith. I believe everybody has a faith, but not everybody has a religious one and I don't want to offend, but to encourage tolerance.

  3. Mary has a bit of a strange look on her face, like she's wondering if she left the gas on!
I'll show what is in my CK when I get to unwrap it, look forward to seeing yours too.

  4. Tee hee. Leaving the gas on!!!
The set come from Barcelona years ago, so perhaps that's just the traditional attitude of a Spanish Madonna. I might have to look at all the nativity scenes I have to see which has the weirdest face!
