For years when mine were little, we studiously avoided Hallowe'en. We went to the Church's Light Party (if fancy dress was in order, it was superheroes, or princesses not witches or skeletons) and made little or no adjustment to the daily order, so no bobbing for apples, peeling skins for divination or any thing that smacked of magicality at all. It worked for us; we didn't go Trick or treating, and those who visited us were politely told, "We don't celebrate Hallowe'en here" The children grew up sensible and well-adjusted, they don't do gross horror films and I'm proud of them. This year they are all old enough to make up their own mind. The lads are easy; if it involves effort, then they're not bothered. But the Princess is a great joiner, and wants to be part of her group. So when a friend invited her to a Hallowe'en party I gave her the option; of course the answer was yes. "I'm not celebrating Hallowe'en," she said,...
I rarely drink tea so my medicine of choice is wine. Good rules to live by.
ReplyDeleteWine is only applicable after 6pm as long as I don't have to drive. That being said, if I were to turn to drink, I think it would either be pear cider or snowballs that caught me, one of which can make me really drunk and the other I would have to really work at!!!
Delete#6 - Mum's favorite - thanks for the memory!
ReplyDeleteIf all else fails, apply tea liberally. I have been known at times of crisis to just make the tea as my default action.
DeleteAbsolutely love all of them! Great! Number 2 made me LOL as I am currently surrounded the biggest mess of my life, tidying the remaining 'bits' (oh how I wish they were 'bits'!) of my scrapbooking supplies....love number 6: a cup of tea is, of course, the only decent refuge some days! And hits the spot like nothing else can...!
ReplyDeleteIf I can substitute number 6 for hot chocolate in winter and Diet Coke in Summer than I can be in with these. Well apart from number 2 - I will never be able to manage number 2!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the tea, there's not much a good brew can't fix. And there's wine for the other bits.
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying these posts, they're really thought-provoking. Being kind to everybody is absolutely the right thing to do - but sometimes easier said than done! xx
ReplyDeleteTea is a wonderful cure all!

Very good rules to live by indeed! Tea was never my thing until some years ago when I was having some troubles and now it is my go to soother and a wonderful thing it is too! xx
ReplyDeleteI am not a tea drinker but coffee has the same effect on my wellbeing. I do regularly make more mess than I can tidy. But at least I think I am kind even if I don't feel like it sometimes. x
ReplyDeleteYep, wise words there. If in doubt, put the kettle on and make a cup of tea, that's what I always do. xx
