Before....... my bedroom #keepingitreal!

I am so tempted to post these on Instagram with the hashtag #keepingitreal but I'm a shy person who also gets very embarrassed at the realisation that my house is was a tip and a mess and that for 10 years I have been very bad at even just the cosmetic things that make a home lovely. Which for a home blogger is pretty bad. But somehow working five days a week has a strange effect on me. The last few holidays I have just felt so inspired, so desperate to improve the house that I need to do work. Or perhaps I'm just tired of sitting and doing not a lot so I need to keep me busy.

So in the interests of full disclosure, here are the before photos. Just keeping it real. Leave any negative comment at the bottom, and remember what your Momma said, "If you can't say anything nice, just don't say anything at all!"

  1. Love all the polka dots and the crochet bag.
I love nothing better than having a good sort out it does wonders for my clearing my head. I still spend a huge amount of time tidying though. I have asked for Banish the Clutter book as a birthday present from my brother in law.
It's hard to find the oomph and time to get things sorted and decorated, I've been wanting to do the kitchen for years and it's only the size of a postage stamp!
I am very much looking forward to the after photos.

  3. It's hard to find time - and sometimes the enthusiasm - to keep everything tidy all the time. I'm looking forward to the after pictures.

  4. It's better than ours used to be and it's only de-cluttered as we still need to get it onto the market. The living room looks like a bombs hit it - and that's with me trying really hard to be tidy :-)

    1. I clean and clear and tidy, then the children get up. Why did I bother?

  5. It is not easy to keep up the tidying and sorting when you work full time and have three kids with the unique ability to propagate mess effortlessly (all kids do). I am well impressed that you have the energy to get the job started. Looking forward to the after photos. x

  6. I try really hard to keep things tidy as it's easier to do little and often than do a huge declutter all at once. It often doesn't work though, you only have to let it slide a little before the enthusiasm goes. I tend to hide clutter behind doors where it can't be seen, I'm trying to work my way through the house though and have a good sort out. I did my bedroom drawers and cupboards when I decorated my bedroom earlier this year and I love having so much space now that I've got rid of so much stuff.

    1. Yours was one of the final straws that made me go for it (blog envy used to good purpose; "If Yorkshire Jo can have a clean and decorated bedroom, well, Lancashire Jo can just go for it as well!" Thank you!)

  7. Those photos just make me want to have a route through your bookcase and a rummage in your boxes :) If we didn't clear out as often as we did ours would look just like yours and yes children do have a lot to answer for. Long gone are the days when I go looking for housework although I do like clear surfaces and a good de-clutter every now and then. You've been 'real' enough to post the before pics so don't forget to post the after ones so we can all congratulate you on your efforts. xx

  8. Oh my, these could be pictures of my house. It's very tricky to keep a house clean and tidy when you work full time and have 3 children. You will feel so good once you have finished decorating!

  9. Let's face it - working full time as a teacher doesn't leave a lot of time for anything else at all so I wouldn't feel too bad about it. Having moved twice in one years - each time to a smaller house - has been really good for me because I just know that I have to get rid of anything I don't need or haven't used for ages, so look on it as a cathartic process. I've kind of lost the painting bug now - having done 6 rooms in about 6 weeks, but I still have the hallways to do so can't give up yet. Keep up the good work. Love the spotty bedcovers! Judy
